Understanding the Significant Changes proposed by Bill 160, Strengthening Quality and Accountability for Patients Act, 2017

Bill 160, which is currently proceeding through the Ontario legislature, will, if passed, affect individuals working in and with Ontario’s health care system by making comprehensive amendments to several health sector statutes, enacting three new health sector statutes, and repealing five health sector statutes, including the Independent Health Facilities Act and the Private Hospitals Act.

Join us on Monday, October 30th, 2017 for a lunchtime webinar to gain further insight to the significant changes proposed by Bill 160.

Specific topics to be addressed include:

  • the Health Sector Payment Transparency Act, 2017, which if enacted, will impose an obligation to report payments, gifts, advantages and perquisites in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries;
  • new regimes for independent health facilities, private hospitals and energy applying and detecting medical devices under the proposed Oversight of Health Facilities and Devices Act, 2017
  • increased flexibility and responsibilities for paramedics and ambulance service providers through amendments to the Ambulance Act
  • proposed changes to strengthen enforcement under the Long-Term Care Homes Act; and
  • greater oversight of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority under the Retirement Homes Act, 2010.
