This presentation will outline key Canadian tax issues facing Canadian mining companies today, and will provide practical solutions and advice for dealing with such issues.  Included will be:

  • a discussion of: how to recover the GST/HST/QST on legal and other services fees incurred to get a TSX–listing or Canadian financing;
  • an analysis of Cameco ¬ a very significant development in the application of the “transfer pricing” rules
  • an update on the deductibility of transaction expenses the pros and cons of using tax rep and warranty insurance;
  • “hidden” federal and provincial excise and premium taxes on global companies operating in Canada; the mining transactions that are actually subject to GST/HST/QST;
  • a discussion of tax issues arising with respect to cross border employees
