Guest Speaker: Shakil Choudhury, Senior Partner, Anima Leadership
Research demonstrates that, in spite of good intentions and being fair-minded, our unconscious mind and automatic brain processes frequently favour those most “like us,” creating blind spots and hard-to-see discrimination that becomes systemic. As a result, many hard-working people and groups are unable to get ahead in the legal workplace.
Shakil Choudhury, an award-winning educator and consultant with more than 20 years’ experience in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion, will address how predominant the unconscious mind is in human interactions and how this contributes to micro-inequities and structural discrimination, enabling participants to:
- Understand the importance of the unconscious mind in human behaviour and choices
- Learn to detect, name, and reduce one’s implicit bias
- Recognize the importance of emotional intelligence skills nurturing inclusion in the legal workplace
