Gilles Leclerc is Counsel and Leader of Securities Knowledge Management for the Corporate/Commercial Law Group. Specializing in securities, he contributes to developing our professionals’ knowledge of capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds, governance and securities litigation.
Throughout his career, Gilles has participated in numerous large-scale corporate transactions involving leading companies. Multidisciplinary, he has also been involved in various corporate litigations while he was practising with the firm. His extensive experience in securities and corporate law allows Gilles to adequately support our professional at every stage of the process, from the implementation to the integration.
Gilles is returning to Fasken after spending the last six years in the public service, first as Senior Director of Corporate Finance and for five years as Superintendent, Securities Markets and a member of the Executive Committee of the Autorité des marchés financiers. In this capacity, he supervised the development and application in Québec of securities regulations governing capital markets, derivatives and market structures.
Gilles was involved in the legal and business community. Among his significant professional achievements, he was the head of the Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions practice group of Fasken from 1999 to 2004 for the Québec region. He also chaired the Legal Advisory Committee of the AMF and has been a speaker at the CIDA program on the development of financial markets in Vietnam. At the request of a major legal conference organizer, Gilles developed a course on securities regulation. In addition, he also participated in securities law teaching at the Université Laval. In addition to his various legal publications on private investments and public takeover bids, Gilles has written a report on the Tunisian financial market for the World Bank.
Gilles holds Canadian and French citizenship.
