Hashim is a technology, privacy and cybersecurity lawyer in Fasken's Emerging Technology group. His practice focuses on advising clients on: technology contract review, drafting and negotiation; data protection, privacy, cybersecurity and digital risk matters; and legal considerations specific to start-up and emerging technology clients, including with respect to artificial intelligence, automation, blockchain, smart contracts, cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
He advises clients on a wide range of verticals within tech, including: pharmaceuticals, BioTech, MedTech and HealthTech; payments and FinTech; InsurTech; food and beverage; fashion and design; and media, sports and entertainment.
Hashim is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for Canada, earning his CIPP/C credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2020.
Hashim is the Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Information Technology and Intellectual Property Section Executive for the 2022-2023 term and was Co-Chair of the Canadian Technology Law Association (CAN-TECH) Fall 2021 Conference. He also spends his time working closely with start-ups by attending local outreach events and provide mentoring and advisory services to new and seasoned founders and creators.
Prior to joining Fasken, Hashim worked at a reputable IP/IT boutique firm and operated as a sole practitioner advising start-ups and entrepreneurial clients in technology, intellectual property, corporate and media law.
