Janelle Douthwright is an Articling Student in Fasken's Toronto office.
Janelle graduated from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law on the Dean’s Honours List. While in law school, she also completed the MBA Essentials program with the Rotman School of Management. Eager to learn more about how different areas of the law affect emerging and growing companies, Janelle initiated an independent research project at the Faculty of Law and wrote a final paper titled “A Junior Lawyer’s Guide to ‘Startup Law”. Janelle worked as a Caseworker at the University of Ottawa’s Community Legal Clinic and completed internships at an intellectual property boutique and with a municipality. She also has experience as a Research Assistant in the areas of intellectual property and telecommunications where she assisted with preparing submissions for a matter before the Federal Court of Appeal. Janelle worked as a Writing Leader for the University of Ottawa’s Legal Writing Academy and was an executive of the Law and Technology Student Society and the First Generation Network. Prior to law school, Janelle earned a Master of Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies from the University of Toronto where she wrote her thesis on employer discrimination against applicants with a criminal record. She also earned a Bachelor of Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies from the University of Toronto where she received a number of awards and graduated with Distinction. Outside of work, Janelle enjoys reading non-fiction, watching documentaries, and exploring coffee shops in the city.
Janelle summered at the Firm in 2021 and was seconded to Rogers Communications Canada Inc.
