Ontario Ministry of Labour Mining Safety Blitz and Your Right to Appeal Orders

Please be advised that the Ministry of Labour (MOL) of the Government of Ontario is conducting a safety blitz of Mining and Mining Plants in Ontario this fall.

If you have received Orders issued by MOL inspectors, including Stop Work Orders, you have a right to appeal the Orders under s. 61 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). Failure to comply with Orders, if they are not appealed, is an offence under the OHSA, with fines up to $500,000 for mining companies. Directors and Officers of mining companies may also be held personally liable for the failure of their companies to comply with Orders.
