Kristen Woo is a labour, employment, and human rights lawyer with particular expertise in privacy law. She provides employers with practical and effective solutions to a variety of legal issues that arise in the workplace.
Kristen has experience with disputes before the BC Labour Relations Board, the BC Human Rights Tribunal, the BC Employment Standards Branch, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and the BC Court of Appeal.
Kristen regularly advises clients on termination of employment, wrongful dismissal and constructive dismissal claims, and compliance with employment standards legislation. She is experienced in preparing employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, privacy policies, and other workplace policies and procedures.
Kristen also provides strategic yet pragmatic advice to employers in the areas of labour law and human rights, including union certification applications, human rights complaints, and accommodation of disabilities. She is also sought by employers to conduct fair and objective workplace investigations into respectful workplace and harassment complaints.
As a member of Fasken’s Privacy and Cybersecurity group, Kristen assists clients with handling a broad range of complex privacy issues, including background checks, employee surveillance, privacy breaches, and access requests, both in the public sector and the private sector.
