Maria is an Associate in the Regulatory group at Fasken’s Calgary office and is developing a broad regulatory practice in the areas of environmental, Indigenous, mining and energy law.
Maria obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa, graduating cum laude in 2021. Throughout her legal education, Maria volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada, the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL). Maria honed her advocacy skills while assisting with environmental litigation matters through the University of Ottawa’s Environmental Law Clinic, as well as in her capacity as a summer student for the Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation.
Her past work experience includes serving as a legal intern with the Just Governance Group, where she worked in the area of international human rights law, and as a research assistant for the United Nations and the University of Calgary. Through these positions, she conducted policy research in both India and Central America.
Maria summered with the Firm in 2019 and recently completed her articles with the Firm, gaining valuable insight assisting on a broad range of litigation, labour and employment and regulatory matters.
Prior to law school, Maria received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Calgary where she graduated with distinction and on the Deans List.
Maria enjoys hiking, running, and travelling. Her backpacking trips include to West Africa, Western Europe, India, Nepal, and Central America.
