“Lawyers in Ontario reject TWU approval” by Cristin Schmitz, The Lawyers Weekly

“Fasken Martineau litigator John Campion, a former Federation of Law Societies of Canada president, said the accreditation of the law school by the umbrella group for legal regulators was not determinative of the public interest in Ontario. The community covenant ‘is discriminatory in a way that’s contrary to the public policy of Ontario,’ he urged. ‘Gay marriage is embraced in this province. Common law relationships are recognized in this province. Sex and sexuality are left to the private bedrooms of the province…so what’s the public interest of Ontario? In my respectful submission it is the kind of diversity that would say we cannot allow this covenant to part of accrediting a law school because it’s one step backwards.’”
