“If this calculation has become complex, it’s because brokers are remunerated according to modes that vary from one fund to the next, explains François Brais, a partner with Fasken Martineau. Mr. Brais is a member of the Board of Governors of the Conseil des fonds d’investissement du Québec (CFIQ). 'Fundamentally, there are three main modes of remuneration,' he explains. 'The broker can receive a fee for each transaction, a percentage of the portfolio value on a yearly basis, or a trailer fee from the creator of the investment fund.'”
