Fasken Martineau is pleased to announce the launch of its new White Collar Post blog featuring legal analysis and commentary on white collar defence by members of the firm’s White Collar Defence and Investigations Group.

Toronto (Canada) – Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, is pleased to announce the launch of its new White Collar Post blog featuring legal analysis and commentary on white collar defence by members of the firm’s White Collar Defence and Investigations Group. The blog can be found at whitecollarpost.com. Readers can subscribe to receive regular email updates.

White collar crime enforcement has evolved substantially in Canada and internationally in recent years. Legislative penalties have increased, and directors and officers face a greater risk of conviction and incarceration. Advice on the current enforcement priorities of government regulators, how to mitigate legal risk and compliance have become even more crucial for companies both large and small.

The White Collar Post blog provides insight into regulatory matters and covers a wide range of issues affecting this practice area. Contributors to the blog span the firm’s offices across Canada and internationally providing a global perspective. The editorial board consists of Editor-in-Chief, Norm Keith (Toronto), co-leaders Andrew Nathanson (Vancouver) and Peter Mantas (Ottawa), Neal Smitheman (Toronto), Patrick McCann (Ottawa), Stéphanie Lapierre (Montréal), and Nic Roodt (Johannesburg).

White collar defence and regulatory matters can cover a wide range of substantive legal issues, including charges under the Criminal Code, Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act, Competition Act, Income Tax Act and a variety of Canadian federal and provincial securities, occupational health and safety (OHS), environmental, technical standards and public safety statutes. The White Collar Post blog will cover these topics and more.

“Besides keeping our clients up-to-date on developments in white collar crime, we aim to help influence the legal framework through which cases involving white collar crimes are evaluated,” said Editor-in-Chief Norm Keith, a partner at Fasken Martineau in Toronto.

The White Collar Defence and Investigations Group is co-led by defence counsel Peter Mantas and Andrew Nathanson whose work in the area has included acting as counsel to the former Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of Canada, in the high profile Senator Mike Duffy expense trial; successfully defending TPG Technology Consulting Inc. in an eight-month criminal jury bid-rigging trial; and acting for an intervener in the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decisions redefining the offence of human smuggling.

In addition to White Collar Post, Fasken Martineau also publishes blogs for clients and industry focused on international tax, competition, antitrust and foreign investment, and current issues in M&A, corporate finance and capital markets.
