Mtre Synnott has been appearing before the courts at every level since 1987, defending the interests of public and private corporations, financial institutions and public and quasi-public Crown corporations. Mtre Synnott is well-known to members of the Bar and the judiciary, having served as both Bâtonnier of Quebec (2014) and Bâtonnier of Montréal (2015).
“We heartily congratulate Bernard for this well-deserved honour which enhances the reputation of our firm. He applied his talents and perseverance to modernizing the professional order, described by the Barreau of Québec as “no small feat”, commented Éric Bédard, Managing Partner for the Quebec region.
Together with Mtre Johanne Brodeur, he received the award for having introduced the new governance at the Barreau during his term as bâtonnier (2014-2015). When Mtre Bernard Synott took over in 2014, he promised to see the new Barreau governance, set to come into force in June 2015, through to its completion. In twelve months, the Barreau managed to convince the government and the Office des professions to have Bill 17 adopted. The Act to amend the Act respecting the Barreau du Québec, the Notaries Act, and the Professional Code was assented to in December 2014.
