Fasken Partners Adrienne O’Reilly, Shane Todd and Sarah Turney have been named the 2019 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 winners. This award recognizes and honours their contributions to the Firm, legal profession and larger community.
The annual award was presented last night at a gala dinner in Toronto. Each year, Lexpert celebrates Canada’s leading lawyers, in this demographic, who are rising stars of the legal community.
Adrienne is a partner in Fasken’s Calgary office and is a member of the Securities, Mergers & Acquisitions group, as well as the Global Energy Group. She has a focus on structuring, finance, corporate governance, and energy law. Adrienne has advised a number of public and private company boards of directors and committees and holds the Institute of Corporate Directors Director designation (ICD.D). Since 2014, Adrienne has been the Corporate Secretary for 100 Women Who Care Calgary, an organization that supports a variety of charities in the local community. Committed to giving back, Adrienne is also actively involved in the autism community in Calgary, and has provided pro bono legal services to a variety of not-for profit organizations and community groups in both Calgary and Edmonton.
A partner in the Toronto office, Shane advises employers on workplace issues and represents them in legal proceedings. He worked as a human resources professional prior to beginning his practice and is a frequent writer on human resources law developments who routinely speaks on workplace issues and conducts trainings. Actively involved in the community, Shane is Chair of the Fasken Pride Network, the Firm’s hub for LGBTQ2+ initiatives. The Network does community outreach and fundraising for organizations like Rainbow Railway, Covenant House, Casey House, and the 519 Church Street Community Centre. Shane previously served as a Board Member and Vice-Chair of VOICE for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children. VOICE supports deaf and hard of hearing children and their families by providing access to information, education, mentoring, and self-advocacy skills training.
Sarah Turney is also a partner in the Firm’s Toronto office, where she specializes in real property litigation and municipal law. She is the first lawyer at Fasken to create this distinctive practice and has grown it with great success. She advises clients on complex easement and title matters, boundary disputes, adverse possession claims, mortgage claims and commercial lease remedies. Dedicated to community service, Sarah is a volunteer director on the board of Toronto’s largest business improvement area. She also acted as duty counsel for Pro Bono Law Ontario for nearly 6 years.
