Fasken Martineau was voted “International Firm of the Year” last night at the 5th UK Diversity Legal Awards.

London (UK) - Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, was voted "International Firm of the Year" last night at the 5th UK Diversity Legal Awards, the only industry awards which focus solely on recognising and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across the legal profession.

Concentrating specifically on the Demographic League Tables, which are based exclusively on the demographic makeup of the participating organisations, Fasken Martineau came out on top, outperforming both UK and international law firms based in the UK.

The firm was ranked in multiple categories, earning top five positions in five of the six key areas reviewed by the judges, including:

•  #1 - all participating firms

•  #1 - international firms

•  #1 - ethnic minority associates for all participating firms

•  #1 - ethnic minority trainees for all participating firms

•  #2 - ethnic minority partners for all participating firms

•  #3 - female associates for all participating firms

•  #5 - female trainees for all participating firms

Gary Howes, Managing Partner for the firm's London office, said "We're committed to diversity and the benefits it brings to our clients and our firm. Many law firms struggle with articulating their key point of difference. For us it's easy; it's our people. We are proud of the demographic makeup of our firm and this award reinforces the point."

The UK Diversity Legal Awards take part of their lead from the Diversity League Table. The overall Diversity League Table is formed by combining the scores of a participating organisation from the "Policy & Practice" table and the "Demographic League Table". It is produced by the Black Solicitors Network, sponsored by the Law Society and supported by the Bar Council, the Legal Services Board (LSB), the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).

Participation in the Diversity League Table is voluntary. A total of 180 firms were invited to take part in 2014, comprised of the UK top 150 and 30 leading international firms with UK bases.
