Montréal (Canada) – Fasken Martineau heartily congratulates Raymond Chrétien, O.C., recipient of the Emir Abdel-Kader Award presented by the Mediterranean Foundation of Sustainable Development.
Two other highly respected international figures were honoured along with Mtre Chrétien: Mr. Federico Mayor (Spain), former minister and former Director-General of UNESCO, and Lakhdar Brahimi (Algeria), UN international mediator.
This award was created as a tribute to the emblematic Émir Abdel-Kader (1808-1883), a shining example of the living together needed to resist the pull of extremism and violence. It is awarded to individuals and corporations who have significantly contributed to the practice of living together and to strengthening peaceful co-existence between peoples, social groups, and individuals.
“We are very proud that Raymond has received this very prestigious award. Raymond has long worked on the international scene, occupying the most distinguished positions in Canadian diplomacy. Raymond is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Montreal Council on International Relations, a position he has held since his return to Montréal. And he has been President of the International Observatory of Mayors on Living Together since June 2015. This recognition is well deserved,” noted Éric Bédard, Fasken Martineau’s Managing Partner for the Québec region.
Over the years, Raymond Chrétien, O.C., has served as Canadian Ambassador to France, the United States, Belgium, Mexico, and the Congo. He is currently a partner and strategic advisor at Fasken Martineau.
Raymond Chrétien has extensive knowledge and first-hand experience of senior government affairs, international financing agencies, complex issues in international negotiations and trade agreements. His experience will add further value to the advice given to our clients doing business in Canada and to Canadian businesses expanding in the United States, Europe, South America and Africa.
