L’Extrajudiciaire - Journal du Jeune Barreau de Montréal features an article on Montréal lawyer Louise Mailhot about her professional career.
I had the opportunity to meet one of them; one of the greats, a devoted pioneer. She is Judge Louise Mailhot, the first judge of the Court of Appeal of Quebec. Writing these words, I cannot believe that I was able to talk openly and candidly with such an important woman. How do I begin to describe her passion and determination? How does one accurately convey all that she has done for women? I will, nonetheless, do my best to tell you about my meeting with an exceptional woman.
A second generation Montrealer and born with the right to vote, Mailhot grew up in the Villeray neighbourhood. Her love for Montreal is palpable! Her maternal grandmother owned a hat store in the city. Mailhot was always inspired by her, especially because she, too, advocated for the right of suffragettes. In 1923, she headed the Association des femmes d’affaires de Montréal [Association of Montreal businesswomen].
