Niel Jacobs is an Associate in the firm’s Business Law group, and is part of the firm’s Global Mining Group. Niel’s practice is focused on the mining industry, mainly advising clients in both the public and private sectors within the mining sector.
Niel is focused on providing strategic advice and supporting clients on public financings and commercial mining agreements. Working in this industry, Niel has accumulated experience on both Canadian and international mining projects. Prior to joining Fasken, Niel practiced as an attorney in South Africa, with his primary areas of practice during that time focusing on corporate and litigious mining-related legal issues.
Niel completed his B Comm Law and LLB degrees at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Following this, he completed his LLM, with distinction, at the Centre of Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee, specializing in international business law in the extractive industries.
Niel joined the firm as a Business Advisor in 2020 while receiving his LLM Canadian Common Law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School. Following the completion of his LLM, he completed an abridged period of articles at the firm and successfully completed the Ontario Bar exam.
Niel is a licensed attorney in both South Africa and Canada, and joined the firm as an Associate in 2022.
