Samantha Reyneke is a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer in Johannesburg, with a focus on construction law and product liability, as well as construction litigation and dispute adjudication on FIDIC contracts.

Primarily working for clients in the energy and power industries, Samantha acts for one of the largest contractors on South Africa’s two largest power expansion projects. She also represents international pharmaceutical companies in product liability cases relating to medical devices, and provides advice to the automotive industry and medical device manufacturers on product liability complaints.

Prior to joining Fasken, Samantha worked at the Competition Commission of South Africa as a Graduate Trainee and then as a member of the Antitrust/Competition and Marketing team. During her time at the regulator, she prepared merger notifications to local and international competition authorities, created exemption applications and appeals, and assisted in matters in the construction, infant milk formula, mining, steel, petroleum, and pharmaceutical industries.

Community involvement

  • Founding member of the Soweto Business Law Clinic, Yakha Isizwe (“Building a Nation”), in partnership with the Centre for Small Business Development (at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus) and ProBono.Org. Samantha assists in commercial law related presentations (to include, amongst others, the National Credit Act, Contract Law and Tenders) which will be presented by Fasken Martineau at the Centre for Small Business Development to start-up SMME owners and aspirant small business owners in numerous key economic sectors, including the agriculture and food processing, textiles and clothing and wholesale and trade sectors on tax and business law issues pertinent to commencing their businesses.
  • Samantha also assists in presenting an annual seminar on the Consumer Protection Act to first and second year art students at the Artist Proof Studio, a not-for-profit section 21 company based in Newtown, Johannesburg. The seminar aims to equip the students with basic knowledge relating to forms of business entities, consumer and credit law, employment, contract and tax law and the courts.
