NewPage buys North American paper operations of Stora Enso for US$2.5 billion

On December 21, 2007, Finnish-Swedish papermaker Stora Enso Oyj sold its North American unit (including two paper mills in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia) to Cerberus Capital's NewPage in a deal valued at US$2.52 billion, including $1.5 billion in cash and vendor notes and share purchases.
Fasken Martineau advised NewPage in this proposed transaction with a team lead by Jon Levin and including, among others: Scott Conover, Kevin Clinton and Kathleen Yoa (corporate and securities); Ross Gascho (pensions); Ralph Nero and Alix Herber (labour and employment); Ron Nobrega and David Fox (tax); Rosalind Cooper (environmental); Huy Do and Douglas New (competition and Investment Canada); and David Turgeon (technology).
