On September 30, 2008, Lignol Energy Corporation (TSX-V: LEC) announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) to explore the development of commercial applications for biochemical outputs from Lignol's proprietary biorefining technology. The parties have also agreed to evaluate the development of a commercial-scale Lignol biorefinery plant at or near a Weyerhaeuser mill site. The MOU excludes applications for transportation fuel. Lignol Energy is a leading technology company in the cellulosic ethanol and biorefining sector working to develop technologies for the production of fuel-grade ethanol and other biochemical co-products from non-food cellulosic biomass feedstocks. Lignol Energy was advised in the negotiation of this MOU by Blair Horn and Bruce Tattrie of Fasken Martineau.
