Significant Changes to Ontario’s Employment and Labour Legislation (2016-2019)

On November 22, 2017, the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 With it came substantial changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (LRA), and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). This was one of the most significant set of changes to impact employers in Ontario in decades.

On November 21, 2018, the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed Bill 47, the Making Ontario Open For Business Act, 2018. Bill 47 undid many of the changes enacted by Bill 148, and made other significant changes to employment-related legislation in Ontario.

Given the fast pace of change in labour and employment law, Fasken has created this page as a resource for employers in Ontario to review the changes, identify new developments and find practical solutions. You will find bulletins, resource documents and seminars listed here, including any related material. In addition, please sign up to our mailing list to automatically receive our regularly scheduled bulletins on these topics and more.
