William is a lawyer specializing in data protection and information security law. He practises in the areas of privacy, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, access to information and online marketing. William advises high-growth technology companies on the operationalization of concepts such as privacy and security by design in a wide range of industries, including softwares-as-a-service (SaaS), Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), neurotechnology, blockchain and cryptocurrency. He frequently assists in negotiating and drafting business agreements covering data protection and information security requirements. He also advises clients on privacy policies, general terms of services and other legal documents for all kind of softwares, web and mobile applications.
He is currently working on his research essay as part of his Master in Information Technology Law at the Université de Montréal. William is specialized in cybersecurity and data protection. He assists clients in connection with multijurisdictional data breaches involving personal information. He reviews disclosure obligations, develops internal and external communication strategies, prepares reports to regulators and affected individuals, conducts investigations and implements recommendations to mitigate the risks of subsequent litigation. He has a marked interest in the development of confidentiality and privacy policies for web sites, software and applications. In his spare time, William is a blogger and has published articles and delivered major presentations on the interaction between artificial intelligence, contracts, privacy and consumer law.
Before entering law school, William obtained a certificate in business administration. Guided by his passion for the unknown, he spent the 2016 Fall semester studying at the Faculté de droit et science politique, at the Université de Montpellier, France. In 2018, he completed an intensive summer course on the impact of new technologies on the law at the International School of Law and Technology, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
