Yufei Luo is an M&A corporate/commercial lawyer and a member of the firm’s Asia Pacific Practice Group.
Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance matters. She works closely with entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses, and corporate clients for their day-to-day needs relating to all aspects of a business’s organization and operation. Internationally, she regularly advises Asian clients in connection with investment matters in Canada.
Her clients are from a variety of industries and sectors, including technology, telecommunications, real estate, mining, financial services, and entertainment and recreation. Her experience includes business formation, corporate acquisitions and sales (asset and share), equity and debt financing, and corporate reorganizations. She also represented clients in cross-border matters including commercial lending, commercial disputes, shareholder disputes, and insolvency proceeding.
Yufei is called to the Bar in both Canada and China. She started her legal career from working as a corporate lawyer at an international law firm based in China, where she had acted as Chinese counsel to many high profile Chinese domestic and North American companies in M&A and listing transactions. Before joining Fasken, she worker at another two international law firms in Canada as a Business Consultant and had been closely involved in Chinese-funded acquisitions with a focus on investment in Canadian natural resource sector.
Yufei obtained law degrees from both Canada and China. She has studied, worked and lived in many cities including Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Beijing, Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur.
Clients benefit from her Canadian/Chinese legal background and cross-cultural understanding that draws upon a breadth of professional and personal experience. She is highly effective in communicating with various stakeholders and played a vital role as part of the deal team in connection with numerous China related business transaction, joint ventures, and technology collaboration matters.
Yufei regularly travels to China to meet clients. She supports local Canada-China business communities. Recently, she participated in an investment mission led by the “Invest in Canada Bureau” to promote investment opportunities in Canada. She spoke on topics of investing in Canada and wrote about the Canada-China Free Trade discussions.
Beyond her professional life, Yufei has made volunteering a priority. She was a board member of the Ottawa Chapter of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association. She has also recently become involved in the board of the Ottawa Chinese Community Services Centre.
