Overview

Gerry is recognized as a leading litigator whose dispute resolution practice encompasses all aspects of civil, administrative and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on professional negligence, cross-border, airline, franchise, banking, insurance, real estate, product liability and employment matters.

Gerry has appeared in all levels of court in Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada and before administrative boards and tribunals. Gerry has been counsel on a number of significant and high-profile litigation matters including The Cash Store v. KPMG LLP, and Canaccord Genuity Corp., and Cassels Brock & Blackwell, a case that was selected in Thomson Reuters' Business Law Report. As an adjunct professor, Gerry taught Advanced Civil Procedure as well as Negotiation Skills at one of Canada’s leading law schools. He also has a particular interest in ADR and is often retained to resolve complex, multi-party disputes. Gerry has acted as counsel in both domestic and international commercial arbitrations and mediations and has employed a variety of ADR protocols to secure extremely favourable results.

Gerry is regularly called upon to advise two of Canada’s largest accounting firms, as well as major Canadian insurance and Fortune 500 public companies, including Air Canada and BF Goodrich Aerospace. Gerry lectures on a wide variety of topics ranging from Commercial Litigation and ADR issues to managing exposure in regulatory investigations. He is frequently recognized in top legal publications for his extensive litigation and arbitration experience. Gerry was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984.
