The energy sector in North America, and internationally, is a complex web of regulatory jurisdictions and practical connections. Our lawyers have a long history with the energy sector and an intimate understanding of the landscape facing companies involved in the development, production and transmission of energy. We assist with commercial transactions, including responses to calls for power and negotiation and contract drafting for projects such as cogeneration plant construction and energy supply agreements.
We have a strong bench of lawyers with experience before regulatory bodies such as the National Energy Board of Canada, the British Columbia Utilities Commission, the Ontario Energy Board and the Quebec Energy Board in proceedings relating to transportation or distribution of natural gas, oil, electricity and wind energy. Additionally, group members act as consultants to international, national and provincial governments and have been involved in providing strategic advice in legislative, regulatory or contractual matters at the World Bank and the Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie. The Energy Group also has extensive experience in community relations and negotiations, especially those involving First Nations.
