Overview

Benjamin Surmachynski is an articling student and a recent graduate from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, where he graduated with a focus in Law and Technology.

Before law school, Benjamin obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Political Science and History from the University of Ottawa. While at law school, Benjamin served as Co-President of the Indigenous Law Student Governance (ILSG) in 2025-2026. As part of ILSG, Benjamin sat on the University of Ottawa, Common Law Reconciliation and Decolonization Committee. Benjamin also co-founded the Obiter Society, which helps to build community amongst University of Ottawa law students through a variety of social events, including organizing the Arguendo cup, the first uOttawa law student-organized moot for first year law students.

Benjamin has intervened at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission with a Professor led research team. Benjamin speaks both English and French.

In his spare time Benjamin likes golf, reading and spending time with family and friends.
