Irene Lai is engaged in a diverse corporate/commercial and securities law practice. She has been involved in a wide range of transactions for both private and publicly-held companies, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, private equity, securities regulation, and corporate governance.
Irene contributes as an Associate Editor on the Carswell Business Law Report Editorial Board and as Co-Chair of Young Canadians in Finance - Toronto Chapter.
Irene holds a joint JD/MBA degree with a Finance specialization from Osgoode Hall Law School and Schulich School of Business at York University, where she was on the Dean’s Honour List and served as Co-President of the JD/MBA Students’ Association. During her studies, she worked as a Caseworker for the Osgoode Venture Capital Clinic, a Teaching Assistant for Schulich’s Introduction to Business course, a Grader for York University’s the Elements of Law: Part One course, and a Commercialization Associate for Innovation York.
Prior to law school, Irene completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Business (Co-op), with a Human Resources Management Minor and a Global Experience Certificate from the University of Waterloo. She was selected as Valedictorian, achieved the highest academic standing in her class, and participated in an international exchange at Warwick Business School in the UK.
Irene interned, summered, and articled with the firm and was seconded to the Canadian Olympic Committee.
In her spare time, Irene enjoys travelling, exploring new culinary experiences, and is an active member of a competitive dragon boat team.
