Fasken’s Venolan Naidoo Appointed as National President of the South African Society for Labour Law

Overview

Johannesburg (South Africa) – Fasken Partner, Venolan Naidoo, has been nominated and appointed as the National President for the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW). Venolan, along with his fellow committee members, will serve the SASLAW community, a non-profit organization made up of more than 1500 members. The Society aim’s to promote the advancement of labour law as a legal and academic discipline and encourage collaboration between lawyers and other experts in the field of labour law.

Venolan is proud to serve the SASLAW community, having been a member since 2013. Over and above this, Venolan served on the Western Cape Chapter’s Executive Committee, and the National Executive Committee of the South African Society for Labour Law from 2018-2020.

Prior to his appointment as the National President, Venolan served as the National Vice-President. During this time, Venolan supported the National Committee, in numerous initiatives for its members, that is aligned to SASLAW’s vision of advancing labour law, a commitment he will carry with him in his new role.

SASLAW’s various focus areas include ongoing education and training; and the roll-out of the national conference that takes place annually, which is well attended by legal practitioners, academics, judges, HR practitioners, and union officials, who of course gather yearly for this large event. SASLAW has adapted its offering seamlessly during the lockdown years and continues to offer remote and hybrid initiatives.

Importantly, the SASLAW community continues to do important pro bono work, particularly staffing the labour law clinics, an initiative offered in various locations across South Africa.

These initiatives continue to shine a light on the importance of SASLAW, and its role in developing the labour law community.
