Calgary Tax Partner Lori Bokenfohr comments on the rules governing the taxation of employment benefits in an article published in The Globe and Mail.

“Anything connected to your employment is generally taxable as employment income at the highest marginal tax rate,” says Bokenfohr. “There are some exceptions and carve‑outs, but unless you fall within one of those, a benefit is taxable, just like salary or bonuses.”
