Ottawa Partner and Co-Leader of Fasken’s National Security and Defence Group Marcia Mills examines the Canadian government’s approach to developing and retaining domestic intellectual property in defence procurement, in an article published in The Hill Times.
While noting that certain aspects of the National Defence Strategy related to intellectual property require further clarification, she outlines the potential benefits of developing domestic IP, particularly in strengthening Canada’s defence technology base.
“Having IP developed in Canada creates a defence technology base domestically, which in theory should support Canada’s defence and dual-use sectors, ensuring solutions can be found in Canada,ˮ said Marcia Mills.
