Overview

Shivam joins Fasken after completing his first year of law school at the University of Saskatchewan. In his first year, Shivam volunteered with PLEA - Cyberbullying Prevention and Awareness Project at Pro Bono Students Canada.

Prior to law school, Shivam received his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting with distinction from the University of Calgary. During his undergraduate degree, he worked as a teaching assistant in tax and cost accounting.

Outside of school, Shivam’s interests include hockey and travel.

Two men meeting Bulletin Alberta Court of Appeal confirms equity investors may initiate CCAA proceedings, broadening standing and reshaping strategy for stakeholders. A recent Alberta Court of Appeal decision is reshaping the boundaries of who can access the tools of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (“CCAA”). In Angus A2A GP Inc v Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc., 2026 ABCA 156, the Court confirmed that equity investors may, in appropriate circumstances, initiate proceedings under the CCAA where they have a genuine financial interest in the outcome. In doing so, the Court adopts a broad and purpose interpretation of “interested person” and reinforces the flexible, remedial nature of the CCAA. This decision has important implications for the scope of access to CCAA protection and the circumstances in which stakeholders may seek to invoke it. Read more
