Darrell Jarvis’s business law practice is focused on franchising, leasing, construction and mergers and acquisitions. Specializing in the hospitality and retail sectors, Darrell has extensive experience drafting and reviewing franchise agreements, disclosure documents, default enforcement, and insolvent franchisees, as well as the purchase and sale of franchised businesses.

Darrell frequently advises clients in co-branding franchised businesses and in the acquisition and divestiture of a number of companies with large franchise systems. Darrell’s leasing experience is focused primarily in ground and build-to-suit leases for free-standing buildings, big box centres, street front locations, airports, hospitals and universities.
Beyond his franchising expertise, Darrell also acts for owners and contractors, drafting construction documents, negotiating the resolution of disputes and advising on health and safety matters. He has drafted construction agreements for hospital, railroad, churches, restaurants, and other commercial facilities.

Prior to joining Fasken, Darrell held executive positions at Cara Operations Limited, leading the Legal, Franchising, Real Estate Development, Construction and Design Departments. Cara is the operator and franchisor of Swiss Chalet, Montana's, Kelsey's, Harvey's, Milestones, and formerly, Second Cup, and was a multi-unit franchisee of several national brands including Tim Hortons and Outback Steakhouse.
