Social Media - What To Do If Your Employees Go Too Far

Your employees may be speaking well or ill of you on social media. Criticisms from work colleagues, denunciations of employer decisions, even comments targeting clients, all create potential risks to your reputation and the confidentiality of this information.
How do you reconcile freedom of expression and the right to privacy with the duty of loyalty and confidentiality that workers owe employers? What rules apply to labour disputes or union demands? Can employers be held liable for comments that an employee publishes on a blog or information site respecting a third party? Can employers take disciplinary action against employees at fault?
Using concrete examples taken from case law, our speakers will examine the legal stakes employers are faced with in this era of social media. They will give employers pointers on how to deal with the potential consequences of their employees' inappropriate use of social media.
