Join us for the second event of 2026 hosted by Fasken and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, which aims to foster knowledge-sharing, inspire meaningful dialogue and build networks to support early-career Black lawyers.
This event is held in association with the Fasken Black Collective.
Early-career lawyers are often expected to exercise sound judgment in situations where the “right” answer is not obvious. This interactive, scenario-based program gives participants a practical forum to explore how to respond when instructions are unclear, deadlines collide, client or team expectations shift, or professional instincts point in different directions. Through realistic practice scenarios and guided discussion, participants will build confidence identifying risk, communicating effectively, escalating appropriately, and making thoughtful decisions in the grey areas that arise in day-to-day practice.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify practical strategies for navigating ambiguous practice situations
- Apply effective communication and escalation techniques when priorities, instructions, or expectations are unclear
- Recognize when to seek guidance, clarify assumptions, or adjust course to support sound professional judgment
