North Castle Partners’ portfolio company Curves International acquires Jenny Craig weight loss business

On November 22, 2013, U.S. private equity firm North Castle Partners’ (North Castle) portfolio company, Curves International, Inc. (Curves), completed the acquisition of the Jenny Craig weight loss business from Nestle S.A. North Castle is a leading private equity firm focused exclusively on health, wellness and active living companies. Curves is the largest chain of fitness centres for women in the world. Jenny Craig is an iconic brand in the weight loss industry. North Castle will combine Jenny Craig with Curves , creating a one of a kind wellness company that offers consumers an array of diet and fitness tools to meet their individual needs. Fasken Martineau was Canadian legal counsel to North Castle and Curves in connection with the acquisition of Jenny Craig’s Canadian business. The Fasken team was led by Stephen Erlichman (private equity) and included Alex Nikolic (corporate), Ian Campbell (employment), Huy Do (competition), Christopher Steeves (tax), Paul Casuccio and Thomas Brook (commodity tax).
