On November 3, 2015, SMS Construction and Mining Systems Inc. announced the sale of its subsidiary, SMS Rents, to G. Cooper Equipment Rentals Limited (Cooper). SMS Rents, a member of the Sumitomo Corporation Group, is a major Canadian construction equipment rental business with over 200 employees and 15 branches located across Ontario and Quebec. SMS Rents offers service to clients in several industries, including building constriction, infrastructure development, demolition, landscaping, industrial maintenance and mining. Cooper is a leading compact equipment rental company in the Greater Toronto Area, operating six full service equipment rental locations from Burlington to Scarborough. The combination of these two companies creates a strong Canadian business of considerable scale and gives Cooper new business exposure in Québec.
