Jay is currently pursuing his JD at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), where he has been actively involved in the law school community. He serves as Co-President of the Business Law Society and as the incoming Executive Business Manager of the TRU Law Review, where he previously served as an Editor. He also held the role of 1L Chair on the Board of Society of Law Students.
Prior to law school, Jay earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Biotechnology from California State University, Bakersfield (2016), followed by a Master of Science in Cancer Immunotherapy from the University of Victoria (2020). His graduate research focused on using Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) imaging as a non-invasive tool to monitor inducible gene expression for therapeutic applications. He has co-authored five peer-reviewed articles published in Clinical Cancer Research, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, G3 (Bethesda), and PLOS One.
Jay gained practical experience as a summer student at an intellectual property law firm in Ottawa after his first year of law school. Before that, he worked as a Research Assistant at a Vancouver-based biotechnology start-up.
During his first two years of law school, Jay worked as a laboratory instructor for nursing students at TRU. He is also a co-founder and former Marketing Coordinator for the Vancouver Chapter of the Science to Business Network, has volunteered with JA British Columbia, and served on the editorial board of The Arbutus Review, an academic journal at the University of Victoria.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Jay enjoys reading science fiction and philosophical literature, playing tennis, and experimenting with cuisines from around the world in the kitchen.
