Overview

The firm has had an established presence in Africa for over 130 years, with the firm in South Africa tracing its founding to 1879. With offices in Johannesburg, London and in Canada’s major business centers, we access a growing network of business leaders and advisers throughout Africa and beyond. Because business across the continent is powered by relationships, clients with interests in Africa benefit from our global connections.

As an international firm, we have one of the largest teams of lawyers dedicated to Africa, comprising a multidisciplinary team handling transactions and litigation matters across the full range of industries and practices. Our lawyers advise on public offerings of natural resource and other companies on the JSE, LSE, AIM and TSX, and on the raising of debt and equity in the capital markets for investment in projects throughout the continent.  We have been privileged to assist companies and governments on major mining, energy and infrastructure projects throughout Africa and we were recently awarded Legal Advisor of the Year by Ai Africa Investor. In addition, our work with Nigeria’s largest private-sector gas distributor on the partial divestment of one of its subsidiaries was awarded Large Cap Deal of the Year (2017) by Private Equity Africa.
