Jean-François De Rico practises in the area of Corporate/Commercial law. Drawing on 25 years of experience, his practice focuses on the legal framework governing technology and digital risk management. He handles matters in the converging areas of commercial law, information technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), privacy and governance. He assists organizations facing complex digital challenges, where addressing the legal, technological, operational and business imperatives requires a holistic approach.
Jean-François advises organizations on technology-related legal matters, particularly in cybersecurity, privacy and artificial intelligence. He guides clients in developing governance and compliance frameworks, implementing regulatory and risk management requirements, and preventing and responding to cybersecurity incidents.
His practice also encompasses the commercial and contractual aspects of technology, including digital transformation projects, the acquisition and integration of technology solutions, cloud computing, outsourcing and supplier relations. He is known for his ability to turn complex legal and technological issues into practical solutions tailored to his clients’ business realities.
Jean-François also advises organizations on AI-related governance and risk management, including with regard to generative AI and agentic AI. He helps them establish governance frameworks and internal policies that take into account regulatory compliance, risk management and the responsible use of data.
Prior to joining Fasken, Jean-François was a partner at a major global audit and advisory firm for over five years. Before that, he was a partner and a member of the executive committee of a major Québec law firm. This experience in both law and consulting informs an approach centred on business issues and the practical implementation of proposed solutions.
