Joel is an articling student and recent graduate from the University of Calgary, where he received his Juris Doctor and his Master in Business Administration. In 2024, Joel received the Campbell McLaurin Achievement Award recognizing his outstanding achievement for both high academic standing and making a significant contribution to the life of the law school.
While at the University of Calgary, Joel was on the executive of the Society of Law Students (SLS) for four years, serving as President for his last two years. He was the Chair and founder of the SLS Wellbeing Committee and helped to establish and improve supports for law students. He also worked on creating the UCalgary Law Connects program to create stronger bonds between students of different years and foster community.
Prior to law school, Joel was a Senior Policy Advisor to the federal Minister of Public Services and Procurement. He has a proven track record helping elect candidates at the municipal, provincial, and federal level. Joel also holds a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management, and a Master in Political Management from Carleton University.
As a born and raised Calgarian, western values are important to Joel. Joel has a deep-seated love for his community. He believes that the people and the natural beauty of the area makes Calgary special. Joel takes pride in warm, friendly, and hospitable spirit of his community—a spirit he strives to share with everyone who lives in and visits our city. He particularly loves to tour guests around Calgary and to showcase the Rockies. His commitment to his community is reflected in his active involvement and his belief in doing things the proper way, guided by his authenticity and a strong sense of integrity.
Joel continues to give back to his community as a member of the Calgary Stampede Reception Committee.
