At first glance, Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump appear to have nothing in common. No one expects the two heads of government to develop an affinity comparable to the one that existed between the Canadian prime minister and Barack Obama. But can they still establish some kind of rapport?
This is one of the main aspects former Canadian ambassador to the US, Raymond Chrétien, now a strategic advisor with Fasken Martineau, is going to monitor. He wonders whether “he’ll manage to establish a personal connection or not?” If at the end of the meeting Donald Trump says: "I like this guy", if there is a good personal relationship, I think that Mr. Trudeau will have much more flexibility and greater latitude. ”
