Toronto (Canada) – Fasken is pleased to announce that Toronto Partner Alan M. Schwartz Q.C. was honoured by the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF) as a recipient of the 2017 Lifetime Contribution Award. The award was presented at the 69th Annual CTF conference in Toronto last week.
This is the most prestigious award given by the CTF. Its purpose is to honour individuals who, over their career, have made substantial and outstanding contributions to the CTF and its purposes through their volunteer efforts and body of work, and to inspire and encourage others to contribute to the CTF.
Alan advises on corporate transactions such as acquisitions, reorganizations, and establishing investment vehicles. His practice includes pleading cases in tax courts at all levels from the Tax Court to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Alan published his first article in the Canadian Tax Journal in 1975. This was the launch point for numerous articles on taxation and risk management over the next 40 years. He is recognized nationally as an expert commentator on corporate tax issues and the General Anti-Avoidance Rule (GAAR). Alan has been a regular speaker on corporate tax matters at CTF conferences, special events, and young practitioner seminars. Alan has served as a governor and continues to advise the CTF.
