Toronto (Canada) – Fasken was awarded Silver in the North American Legal Advisor of the Year category at the 2019 P3 Bulletin Awards. Fasken was selected among a list of 14 firms.
The sixth annual awards ceremony took place last week in New York City. The P3 Bulletin Awards recognize and reward outstanding achievements in public-private partnerships across the Americas. Winners were selected by a panel of industry experts.
This follows Fasken being named by IJ Global earlier this year as the “Legal Advisor of the Year (Public Sector)” for North America. It is an unprecedented double recognition for a Canadian firm in this space, spanning both Canada and the US.
The judging panel noted Fasken had an excellent and enviable year, remarking the Firm demonstrated “excellent cross-border P3 experience, in particular noting its ‘commendable’ work on the Gordie Howe Project representing the Canadian Federal Government and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority on one of the most complex cross-border projects in North America. The judges noted that Fasken was one of the most relevant Canadian firms for P3 in North America.”
In addition to the Silver Legal Advisor of the Year award, the Gordie Howe International Bridge Project won for Best Road/Bridge/Tunnel Project and the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) won for Best Procuring Authority. Fasken was lead transaction counsel for the Government of Canada and Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) on this important Canada-US cross-border project. A panel judge summarized the decision by stating: “The sheer size, scope, complexity, and significance of this project makes it a deserving winner of this category.”
The Gordie Howe International Bridge project has been the recipient of several other industry awards recently including: IJGlobal’s Road Deal of the Year, Lexpert’s Canadian Deal of the Year, PFI’s Transport Deal of the Year, the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships Outstanding Emerging Project Award, and CG/LA Infrastructure’s prestigious 2019 Oracle Project of the Year Award.
