Fasken Partner, Andrew Nunes, Elected to the Board of Governors of the National Bar Association

Overview

Toronto (Canada) – Fasken partner, Andrew Nunes, has been elected to the Board of Governors, and is the new Chair for the Commercial Law Section (CLS) of the National Bar Association (NBA).

The NBA is the largest bar association in the U.S. for Black attorneys and judges. Organized around 23 substantive law sections, 10 divisions, 12 regions and 80 affiliate chapters throughout the U.S. and around the world, the NBA represents the interests of approximately 100,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students. The Association is also committed to advancing the interests of the Black community through advocacy, networking, mentorship and sponsorship.

The Board of Governors is the governing body of the Association. The primary function of board members is to advance the interests of the NBA membership and the Association’s goals and objectives. The mission of the CLS is bring its outside counsel members together with in house counsel who seek to increase the diversity of their outside counsel ranks as well as to provide networking and education forums to address the interests of NBA members practicing in the area of Commercial Law. The CLS is also committed to serving the community and expanding the pipeline of African Americans entering the legal profession.

Andrew has been a member of the NBA since 2007, and has been actively involved in the Association in various roles, including as a long-time member of the CLS Executive Committee, most recently as Vice-Chair. He is a Vice-Chair of Fasken’s Business Law Department (Ontario) and a member of the Firm’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications industry group Steering Committee and the Firm’s US Committee. His corporate and commercial practice is focused on mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures, business partnerships, complex outsourcings and other business transactions, with a particular emphasis on the technology sector and technology related matters.

A regular author and frequent speaker on technology and commercial law topics, Andrew is also a Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association IT and E-Commerce Section, and a prior member of the OBA Council. Andrew recently completed an extended tenure on the Board of Directors of TechConnex, a leading Canadian technology industry association. His expertise in IT Law is recognized by Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, Lexpert and Best Lawyers, along with other rankings.
