Johannesburg (South Africa)—Gillian Niven joins Fasken as a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial Group in the Johannesburg office, effective 2 February, 2026.
Gillian brings more than 15 years of practice as a regulatory lawyer, with a strong focus on environmental law, ESG, and sustainability. She has extensive experience investigating, assessing, and advising clients on complex environmental compliance matters across a broad range of industries, including energy, mining, oil and gas, nuclear, and industrial sectors.
Prior to joining Fasken, Gillian practised environmental law at leading South African law firms and also served as in-house legal counsel to both a JSE-listed gas company and a renewable energy company. In these roles, she played a key part in overseeing all legal matters, including regulatory engagement, risk management, and the drafting of critical legal and commercial documentation.
