Sam is an associate in the firm’s Vancouver office and a member of the Indigenous Legal Matters and Energy & Climate groups. He brings a deep commitment to advocacy and justice, with experience spanning multiple levels of court, including the Federal Court, British Columbia Supreme Court, and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Sam holds a JD/JID from the University of Victoria, a program launched in response to the TRC Calls to Action. Through that program, he gained valuable experience and teachings, shaped by working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous laws. Prior to joining Fasken, Sam clerked at the BC Supreme Court, gaining exposure to a wide range of legal issues.
His practice includes judicial reviews across a broad range of subject matters, with a particular focus on Aboriginal law issues. His experience includes cases concerning the domestic interpretation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
Sam is dedicated to community service through his legal practice and beyond. He currently serves on the board of the Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture and previously served on the board of the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, Sam has conducted pro bono legal work and hopes to continue doing so over his career.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys adventuring in the mountains and has a passion for rock climbing and skiing.
