Overview

The shortage of affordable housing across Canada is a critical concern for businesses and policymakers alike, as they grapple with unprecedented affordability, accessibility and availability constraints. Navigating the policy and regulatory landscape to find solutions to address these challenges can be complex on all sides. That’s where we come in.

We work with clients who are committed to improving access to affordable housing from government agencies, private equity, pension funds and family offices looking to fund housing developments, to those seeking access to financing such as builders, developers, not-for-profits including seniors or student housing organizations, co-operatives and community land trusts. We have extensive experience supporting federal, provincial, and municipal government agencies (as key providers of funding) to structure low interest payable or forgivable loans. We also work with proponents, such as Indigenous communities, to support housing initiatives. As one of Canada’s largest groups focusing on Indigenous law, we advise colleagues from all of our other practices and are often sought after to advise clients and law firms across Canada and around the world.

We know the landscape. We know the regulatory environment. We’ll help you navigate complexity, with purpose.
