Simon Brissette advises asset managers, portfolio managers, brokers and investment fund managers. He is an associate in the Asset Management & Investment Products group at Fasken, where he supports public and private market participants. His background in both law and finance gives him a practical understanding of the operational and financial realities facing clients.
Clients regularly seek his advice on obtaining or amending their registration with securities regulators. He assists them in structuring a compliance program and in advising on the distribution of financial products. Simon’s practice is focused on matters involving investment funds whose securities are offered by prospectus or under prospectus exemptions, as well as alternative investment vehicles.
As part of his practice, he drafts internal policies and procedures, prepares offering documents and continuous disclosure, and communicates with regulatory authorities, including the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). He also advises clients on interpreting and applying securities regulatory requirements.
Simon holds a dual degree in law and finance from the Université de Sherbrooke and graduated with honours. He passed both Level I and Level II of the CFA exams, scoring in the 90th percentile. He also holds a certificate in mining law from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Prior to joining Fasken, he gained experience in bank financing and financial analysis. He also conducted research on legal risk management and the regulation of emerging technologies.
