On July 17, 2015, JAW Hockey Enterprises LP (“JAW”) acquired the Erie Otters hockey club (“Erie Otters”), a major junior ice hockey team based in Erie, Pennsylvania and a member of the Ontario Hockey League. Pursuant to the acquisition, JAW purchased substantially all of the assets, and assumed certain liabilities, of Erie Hockey Club Limited (“EHCL”) through bankruptcy proceedings initiated by EHCL under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Fasken Martineau advised JAW on the transaction with a team led by Aaron Atkinson and Will Shaw (Mergers & Acquisitions), and included Alan Schwartz (Tax), Paul Casuccio (Tax) and Stuart Brotman (Insolvency & Restructuring).
